Local info

Fast-paced and packed from day to night best describe the shopping districts. Just as lively, Chicago’s top sights bustle with activity – ice skating in Millennium Park, sightseeing through Lincoln Park Zoo, playing at Navy Pier, and more. Unwind at a leisurely pace at a luxurious spa, sip tea near a cozy fireplace, or lounge about with the stellar skyline in view and cocktails in hand. The season is ripe for arts and culture as well. Immerse yourself in the vibrant theater scene, explore museums and galleries of every variety, and take in sensational performances – from live music to comedy, dance, and opera.

When you're in Chicago, you can expect to find world-class dining and entertainment here in the largest and most-visited city in the Midwest. Famously called the “Windy City”, you can enjoy the perks of living in a big city here plus the added bonus of lake-side pleasures like boating, kayaking, and other fun activities!

Transportation: Chicago is a fairly walkable city, and if something is too far to walk, they have a reliable public rail system called the ‘L’. Click here for more information about the ‘L’. As it is ready for public transportation in Chicago, we do not believe that a car is needed in this city.

Housing: Housing options in Chicago are extremely varied in price. You can find Studio apartments as low as $1100 per month, though there are of course more expensive options the closer you are to the heart of the city, and the larger the apartment. If you would like to go with one of these options it is recommended that you find a roommate to split the costs with. Below are some resources to help you begin your apartment search! Please note, without established credit, your first and last month’s rent may be required as a deposit. HRC recommends you arrive with at least $2,500 as startup capital and to help secure housing.
