What a great experience for you to excel in your cooking experience but also advance your skills learning the front of house food and beverage operations management and Sous Chef in Training in Gaithersburg is located to the northwest of Washington, D.C.

Placement Remarks

Salary: $55,000/Year

Bring your own knives and non-slip shoes.

For front of the house training bring a suit when training.

A uniform will be provided for you training in the kitchen.

You can fly into either airport, Dulles or Ronald Reagan Airports. Airport pick up is not provided. You will need to uber or take a taxi to the hotel. 

Benefits: The hotel will provide housing up to 2 weeks (room and tax only). All other charges are your own responsibility.

You will accrue 128 hours PTO and 68 hours Sick at a rate of 2.46 hours per week and 1.33 hours per week.  They will also get 8.00 hours/year of personal time to use. 

 Meals provided for a fee per shift Cost ranges between $ 5.00 for a Caesar Salad to $8.00 for a Cheese burger with fries.

Please see your benefits manual per holiday, sick and personal time off restrictions. Employee meals are offered per 8 hours shift worked for a cost of $1.50.

Gaithersburg, MD is near within the metropolitan area of Washington, D.C. but has a vibe all its own. Home to a thriving arts and entertainment district Gaithersburg has a millions things to explore in its urban setting including restaurants, trendy shops, and historic sites and venues. On your days off travel the 40 minutes to Washington, D.C. to visit the Capitol of the United States and its many historical sites and museums. 

Housing: 

Being so close to Washington D.C. housing in Gaithersburg can be expensive. Studio, 1 BR, and 2 BR apartments are available for $1500-$5000 per month unfurnished and before utilities. We recommend that you consider rooming with another J-1 or local share the cost of the living. The metro is very reliable, which allows the option to live outside the city where the cost of living will be a bit less expensive. Please note, without established credit your first and last month’s rent may be required as a deposit. HRC recommends you arrive with at least $2,500 as startup capital and to help secure housing.

Transportation: 

The metro is very reliable, which allows the option to live outside the city where the cost of living will be a bit less expensive. Visit WMATA and goDCgo to explore all of the sustainable transportation options!  
If further travel is desired, a car may need to be rented or purchased. HRC recommends J1 candidates bring at least $3,000 in addition to startup capital in order to help obtain a car and insurance. If a car is purchased insurance is required and can cost around $150 per month. 

Climate: 

Winters are usually chilly with light snow, and summers are hot and humid. Spring and fall are mild to warm, while winter is chilly with annual snowfall averaging 15.5 inches (39 cm). Winter temperatures average around 38 °F (3.3 °C) from mid-December to mid-February. Precipitation occurs throughout the year.
